Student Leadership

Student leadership is integral to education at St Dympna’s. From their first day, students are encouraged to take responsibility for their learning and interactions. Staff model and teach leadership across all year levels, supporting students to excel in academics, sports, and the arts—forming the foundation of leadership at the school.

Year 6 Leadership

The title of Leader is given to all year six students as an expectation for these students to model the expected behaviours and attitudes of St Dympna’s. At the start of the academic year, year 6 students receive leader badges as part of school tradition. During their final year, students may nominate to participate in one of several leadership ministries responsible for student activities, mission projects, school celebrations, assemblies, daily flag duties, and sports organisation during play times.

Throughout the year, student representatives attend various functions including the launch of the Lenten Appeal, Children’s Mission Day Mass, and the ANZAC Day Student Ceremony. Student Leaders also support sports events, with captains chosen for swimming, cross country, and athletics teams.

School and House Captains

Each year captains are nominated and elected, taking on the role of School Captains (4) and House Captains (2 per house). These students lead the school with their peers supporting younger students to confidently participate in school life and actively participating at school celebrations and ceremonies.

Graduation

We celebrate our senior leaders, providing every opportunity for them to reflect on their primary school journey as they prepare to graduate to high school. Our ceremonies are steeped in tradition and a highlight our students look forward to, including formal graduation events, presenting of badges, masses, parting gift and school guard of honour.
